Wellington College prides itself on its progressive approach to education. With a commitment to rethinking traditional methods, the school maintains a flexible and thoughtful approach to teaching and learning. The school offers Mandarin alongside several other modern languages and features popular options such as dance, design engineering and computer science.
With a balanced mix of A levels and the IB Diploma, Wellington offers a rigorous yet flexible senior programme tailored to each pupil’s strengths and future ambitions. The school encourages individuality, supporting students who wish to launch their own clubs, projects or artistic ventures. From exhibitions showcasing student ceramics to distinctive co curricular activities like ‘glass fusing with Mrs Carr’, pupils benefit from a wealth of opportunities for creative expression and personal development.

Admission to Wellington College is highly competitive, with around 200 pupils entering the Third Form at age 13. Demand for places is strong, with several applicants for each place, predominantly from UK prep schools but increasingly from a wider educational background. The school seeks pupils who demonstrate academic ability alongside character, enthusiasm and a willingness to contribute to the broader life of the school.
Candidates complete assessments such as the ISEB Common Pre Test and are evaluated through interviews and holistic review of their suitability for the boarding and academic environment.
For entry at 14+ or 16+, the admissions process varies and may include cognitive testing, interviews and immersive visits to assess a candidate’s adaptability, curiosity and engagement. Wellington maintains a diverse intake with pupils joining from across the UK and internationally, reflecting the school’s global outlook and inclusive ethos.
