ADMISSIONS

Highgate School admits around 80 new pupils into Year 7 each year, joining those progressing from the Junior School. Entry is competitive and begins with families attending an open event to gain an insight into the school’s ethos, curriculum and facilities. Registration for 11 plus entry typically opens in early summer, with applications submitted by autumn.

Candidates sit the school’s entrance assessments in December of Year 6, which test English, mathematics and reasoning skills. Pupils who perform strongly are invited back in January for a group interview and a short taster lesson, giving staff the opportunity to observe how applicants respond to new ideas, interact with others and engage with classroom activities.

Offers are issued in February, followed by events designed for offer holders to revisit the school, meet teachers and pupils and gain a deeper sense of Highgate’s community before making a final decision. The school looks for applicants who demonstrate academic potential, curiosity and a readiness to contribute to the wider life of the school.
