It is the greatest love story of all time. On this course, students work towards understanding Shakespeare's tragedy 'Romeo and Juliet' and analysing it so that they feel confident using the text for their GCSE exam. This programme is designed to make the plot and themes more accessible, increasing student's enjoyment of the text. Initially, the focus of the lessons is on making sure that students are full up-to-speed with all relevant historical and narrative context. Without this basis, it's difficult to penetrate the story and really get to the heart of what is being expressed. Following this will be in-depth character analyses and students are encouraged to formulate and express their own views on the characters and how they are developed. The programme finishes off with close textual analysis, during which students will learn key transferable skills which can be applied to other subjects and disciplines.
