A course structured using all elements of British folk music to build students' performance, listening and composition skills so that they are well-prepared for their GCSE music qualification.
A Key Stage 3 music course on British folk music, pitched at the upper end of ability (high attaining Year 7 and 8s, as well as Year 9 classes). The course is structured using the elements of music and focuses on building students' listening, performance and composition skills, integrating all of the skills needed to prepare for a GCSE music qualification. The listening lessons focus on one element in relation to British folk music and allow students to develop their critical listening skills through a series of listening and short written exercises, including a GCSE-style listening test. Each listening lesson is then followed by a practical lesson which sees students applying their knowledge through performing folk music and composing their own music in folk styles. By the end of the course, students will have a comprehensive knowledge of the sound and style of British folk music, as well as a completed folk performance and composition.
